WRITING IS GOOD MEDICINE

Center for Communication in Medicine co-founder Celia Engel Bandman developed Writing is Good Medicine® while serving as a “medical humanist” at a cancer center in Vermont.  Workshops were designed for patients, loved ones and medical professionals to help explore the experience of those living with illness and those caring for them.

In Bandman’s own words:

“Putting words on paper can help to better understand and give meaning to the experience of illness for patients and the doctors [providers] who care for them.”

Insights generated from the writing program helped to improve healthcare communication and increase satisfaction with care during her tenure at the cancer center (1998-2005).
Since 2005, Writing is Good Medicine® workshops have been offered at hospitals, universities, community centers and conferences and are now available online by qualified professionals. For more information, please contact us.
